Abstract
This short article introduces the special issue on, ‘Bodies on the Move: Post–Conflict Exhumations and the Movement of the War Dead’. It explores how the remains of soldiers who died in the two world wars were sometimes subject to multiple exhumations before they arrived in permanent military cemeteries. The special issue uses the case study of the British experience to consider how the shifting of bodies also reconfigured the memory and commemoration of conflict.
