Abstract
The University of Chester Rights Retention Policy enables authors to retain copyright of their Author Accepted Manuscripts (AAMs) and make them openly available through ChesterRep immediately upon publication under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) licence. Effective from 20 July 2026, the Policy applies to University staff (including honorary and emeritus staff) and covers peer-reviewed journal articles and conference proceedings with ISSNs (published in journals). Its purpose is to: support Open Access (OA) publishing; increase the visibility and impact of research; reduce publishing costs by promoting Green OA; and help researchers comply with funder and REF OA requirements.
Authors are encouraged to include a set statement in manuscript submissions and, upon acceptance, deposit their AAM in ChesterRep via Symplectic Elements. Co-authors must be informed of the Policy before submission. Should it be necessary, reasons for opting out are also outlined in the Policy document.
