dc.description.abstract | This qualitative research is an exploration of counsellors’ perspectives on the factors that influence their well-being and resilience. The data was gathered from five practicing counsellors, using semi-structured interviews and analysed by the Constant Comparative Method. Analysis of the data found that working as a counsellor can adversely affect health and well-being, and that wellness is a holistic phenomenon. A major theme to emerge from the data was that enhanced self-awareness can help prevent a reduction in well-being. Additionally, participants described finding it necessary to take positive action in order to maintain wellness, and many strategies were identified. These findings support research in this area. | |
