Abstract: This presentation discusses student starting points for studying in higher education, "hidden skills" required to attain module/programme learning outcomes, the gap between student understanding of HE level and lecturer expectations, and how to move from a "sticking plaster" approach to academic development and whether this requires a cultural shape-shift in conceptualising the student learning experience.
