Chester Centre for Research into Sport and Society1
The CCRSS has an emerging reputation for producing high quality teaching and research in the sociology of sport and exercise. The Centre is staffed by Dr. Daniel Bloyce, Professor Ken Green, Dr. Katie Liston and Dr. Andy Smith, who are also members of the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences within which the CCRSS is housed.
The CCRSS is also especially proud to also be able to count among its Visiting Professors Eric Dunning and Ken Roberts who are widely regarded as two of the pioneers of the sociology of sport and leisure respectively. Additional Visiting Professors of the CCRSS include Ivan Waddington and Patrick Murphy and all have made significant contributions to, amongst other things, the sociological understanding of football hooliganism and sport, health and drugs.
All members of staff contribute to teaching on the taught MSc programme in the Sociology of Sport and Exercise, and some are involved in supervising PhD students at the University of Chester and elsewhere.
The CCRSS currently has 19 students on the MSc programme and also has an active Erasmus exchange programme for staff and students with the Norwegian University of Sport and Physical Education based in Oslo.
