Title: Facilitating effective change management in the charitable giving trust
Authors: Williams, Deborah
Abstract: Given the pace of change and the many aspects of managing change which organisations need to address, effective change management has become an increasingly business critical capability of organisations. The collaborating organisation, The Charitable Giving Trust (TCGT) has embarked on a substantial Information Systems Project which will replace or radically improve all technology infrastructure and information systems used to deliver services to clients. TCGT requires effective change management throughout the project and in addition, the development of organisation capability to manage emergent and contingent change to its systems and business mode. Understanding the potential impact of change on employee well-being is vital, as is helping organisations manage to accept and embrace change. The people within an organisation can be the key to successful change or the biggest obstacle to it. Academic research in the field of change management process and change models was reviewed. The role of organsiational leadership and culture on the organisational propensity and capability to change was investigated. The reserch sought to identify the best practice approaches to change management which can facilitate employee committment to, involvement in and acceptance of change. The areas of academic research informed the research conducted within TCGT. The research sought to identify TCGT current apprach to managing change, in order to inform recommendations for improvement and for adoption of applicable best practice.

Technology used as a tool to manage people

Title: Technology used as a tool to manage people
Authors: Barros, Gisele Azambuja Carrilho do Rego
Abstract: This dissertation shows that nowadays it is impossible to manage people without manging use of technologies, therefore the title "technology used a tool to manage people", is perfectly suited to what will be presented in this project, which is a connection between what is already known about contemporary theories of human resource management (HRM) and what is being developed in terms of the e-HR platform to manage people. In addition, a new theory of HRM is outlined which is based on the E-HR technology and suggests the alignment between the human resource sector and the business strategy of the organisation. Firstly, the research statrts with the presentation of the evolution of HR, which was initially called 'industrial welfare', and then follows on with main activities and goals of HR today. Secondly, the disseration gives a different perspective of HR and its future challenges in regards to the relationship between technology and traditional HR, resulting in an e-HRM platform. It gives a new approach for the alignment of human resources with technology to show that HR is now part of the business and organisational strategy. HR cannot be restricted to administrative tasks any longer. Finally, it will apply management theories to the real world or, in other words, it will show that it is unavoidable to manage people and HR without making use of IT.

Title: Assess LTSB mobile banking usage by customers in the Chester area during June and July 2011
Authors: Hampshire, Chris
Abstract: Over the past decade the focus of UK banks has been on delivering electronic banking through Personal Computers (PCs) in order to reduce their operational costs. Information Technology and new distribution channels are two key drivers of strategic change and smart-phones are Information Technology devices that can act as electronic distribution channels. Smart-phones have become more widespread than PCs in the UK and consequently smart-phones provide an opportunity for Lloyds TSB to extend their electronic banking services to a wider customer base. The effective use of mobile banking through smart-phones usage by customers will assist Lloyds TSB in reducing their operational costs as custoemrs undertake banking transactions themselves rather than using branches or call centres. The recent phenomenal growth in the number of UK customers with smart-phones provides an opportunity for Lloyds TSB to effectively use this development as a further opportunity to meet their overall business strategy.

Authors: Sinlapawanich, Supapat
Abstract: This dissertation considers whether it would be feasible for the jewellery shop MORAKOT GALLERY to open a business in Chester, Cheshire. The research presents perspectives on the decision making process, marketing strategies, consumer behaviour, the Internet and E-commerce of a focus group of people who specifically live in Chester, Cheshire. The study includes academic references used to compare and contrast the jewellery business around the world as well as in the UK. The study shows that the focus group seems to love the products from MORAKOT GALLERY, making positive comments about them. The study also shows that demographic factors influence the views of the focus group. The study, therefore, provides suggestions for MORAKOT GALLERY’s future business strategy.
